We want Vinolio to be part of the story of the place. It begins with the monastery and the land around it, and it continues every season.

A PRODUCT OF MONASTIC LIFE

For centuries the monks lived by a simple rule: pray, work and welcome. The fields, groves and vineyards fed the community and its guests. Vinolio carries those same values working forward. All the people involved in Vinolio are simple, disciplined, warm-hearted people, always with the smile willing to share their passion with everybody around them.

Founded in 1632, the monastery has been a center of faith and learning in the region of Akrotiri.

A TIME TRAVEL THROUGHT THE CENTURIES

From 1632 to today, this land has been worked, lost and cared for again. Construction of the monastery began in 1611, when the brothers Jeremiah and Lavrentios Tzagarolos, scholars from a Venetian-Cretan family, decided to built their monastery around a small church on this site.

Construction finished in 1632. It became one of the finest examples of the Cretan Renaissance. Burned during the Greek Revolution of 1821, it was rebuilt on what was le^ and from 1834 it has been alive ever since, surrounded by the olive groves and vineyards that still feed it.
